October 10, 2007 Dear Candidate:
As a presidential candidate, you know that health is a key issue for voters. Health care is the single most important issue after the Iraq war in Americans' choice for President in 2008. Despite this, only 14% of voters say that they are well informed of their elected officials' stance on health care issues according to a recent Research!America poll. Research!America and our partners are committed to ensuring that health stays at the top of the agenda during the 2008 campaign and that voters are informed of each candidate's position on a variety of health and research issues. We invite you to participate in our 2008 Your Candidates–Your Health: The Presidential Primaries initiative by completing the enclosed questionnaire. Our continuing partnership with PARADE magazine will be essential to informing the public about this important voter education initiative. Our successful 2006 Your Candidates–Your Health voter guide and Your Congress–Your Health initiative received significant attention when PARADE urged its 74 million readers to see how their candidates and congressional members responded. To submit responses to our questionnaire, you or your staff may:
Upon receipt of a complete or partially complete questionnaire, we will enter your responses for publication on our 2008 Your Candidates–Your Health Web site at www.yourcandidatesyourhealth.org. If responses to certain questions are left blank, or no questionnaire response is received, the question or questionnaire will be marked "not completed." Research!America is a not for profit, 501(c)(3), education and advocacy alliance with more than 500 member organizations. Your Candidates–Your Health is a voter education initiative only. Responses will be published as submitted and candidates will not be endorsed. If you have any questions regarding the questionnaire, please contact Stacie Propst, PhD, senior director of science policy and outreach, at spropst@researchamerica.org or 703-739-2577, ext. 43. For more information about Research!America, please visit our Web site at www.researchamerica.org. We greatly appreciate your participation in this important voter education initiative. Sincerely,
